Well, the Tirumala temple was constructed in 300 AD. Now you know, why so many devotees donate huge amounts to the Tirupati Tirumala Devasthanam every year. The literature says, as per the loan agreement, Lord Venkateswara is supposed to pay back the loan till the end of this Yuga with the help of his devotees. The amount borrowed by Lord Venkateswara was 1.4 million Ramamudra coins. The tenure of the loan was supposed to be 1000 years(One Yuga). Kubera is considered to be a treasurer as per Hindu mythology. To pay for his wedding, Venkateswara decided to borrow that sum from Lord Kubera. The King, Padmavathi’s father asked for a huge bridal price. They fell in love and decided to get married. ![]() Lord Vishnu soon followed her and tried searching for her, alas with no success! During his search, Lord Vishnu met Padmavathi, who was the daughter of the King of Seven Hills of Tirumala. She came and settled on the Earth in disguise. Goddess Lakshmi, once had a fight with Lord Vishnu, and left the Vaikuntha. Lord Venkateswara is an incarnation of Vishnu, who is a resident of Vaikuntha. We have many incidents of lending-borrowing in the Indian mythology, of which I intend to discuss one today: Loan by Lord Kubera to Lord Venkateswara (popularly known as Lord Balaji). Lending & borrowing is an old phenomenon. ![]()
